Twelve days from closing and appraisal

This home building process is really testing my patience. We never seem to run out of issues in the house. I don't want this blog to be all about my rants so I don't post all of them here. But there are so many! Some minor but a few major ones. Our walls have holes in them because fixtures are not centered, not leveled, incorrent placement of vents, there's a door where it's not supposed to be, etc. One of the major ones is that half of our driveway had to be torn apart and repoured next week. Our presettlement walkthrough is scheduled next Friday June 20th and closing on the 24th. Our new PM is working hard to address the issues and have the house ready by then.

On a brighter note, our appraisal came back to be higher than what we paid for so that's good.

  1. I understand the thought. There have been so many times that I've re-read what I've written and it sounds so negative, negative, negative. I even considered really holding things back (which is not in my nature), but my purpose in doing this was to share the experience, good and bad, and give information to anyone who wants it.
Going through this process, I've quite often felt like I'm beating my head against a wall and wondered why we're having so many issues when so many bloggers experience rainbows and butterflies. Perhaps their experience was greatly filtered and, therefore, not nearly as great as it may have seemed.

    1. You are definitely right. I should be posting everything in the blog that I know could help current/future builders, because it is likely that they are having the same issues too or for them to avoid these issues.

  2. There's a door where it's not supposed to be? Dang! Sorry you're going through all these issues. Hopefully all of it gets fixed asap with your new PM. Please don't hesitate to write out the negatives. It gives me a chance to understand more about Ryan Homes. I mean, I've encountered little things here and there and really haven't mentioned it because it's just cosmetic things... but physical things such as your driveway being redone... that's crazy! I know not every home is going to be perfect and I have a feeling that I'll be expecting some issue(s) sooner or later as our house gets built. So I guess I'm psyching myself up just by reading all these blogs!

    1. Thanks Kimmie. In the Palermo, there is a door in the great room that opens to the home office. Since we opted for the 1st floor bedroom instead of the home office, the bedroom door is relocated. But they kept the door from the great room (such as in an office) which opens to another door (bedroom door). So we have two doors! SMH. I'll post a pic next time.

  3. I'm so sorry to hear you are having all those issues! It seems like your PM before wasn't on top of it or overworked or SOMETHING! Agree with others, share your experience with (of course if you are comfy doing so)- it gives us all stuff to look out for. I am one of the lucky ones, we had an extremely easy, no issues build- BUT things that you have posted about made me go back and look at things to double check. Hang in there!

    1. Thanks Chrissie!. Yes, our former PM was so spread thin managing many other houses so he wasn't able to devote full attention to all the details in our house. So our new PM inherited and now addressing all of the issues and problems that were overlooked by the former PM. You are very lucky to have an easy build.
